Building Employee Morale - Missed Opportunities

"Building Employee Morale" suggests a solution to the problem of employees feeling as if they've received a poor score when they've been rated as "Meeting Performance Standards."

Training Points:

  • Beware of the undercurrent of disappointment flowing FROM management when a team or person does not exceed job standards.

  • Employees who are meeting job standards should be praised for doing so.

  • Don't be unimpressed by employees who are receiving JUST a Meets Job Standards rating on evaluations.

  • If a Meets Job Standards rating is not an impressive accomplishment, your job standards need to be re-evaluated.

Note: This video is often referred to as The Meets Problem video because that term is used by one of the characters in the video. The Meets Problem is this: Employees who are meeting high job standards are doing exactly what the company has asked them to do, yet, employees feel like the Meets rating is a bad score, and supervisors are unimpressed by a Meets rating. Is this a bad thing? Is it a problem?

This program is a great companion to "1 on 1 - Informal Employee Review"
